被喻為史上最偉大音樂劇之一的CATS（貓）是音樂劇天王Andrew Lioyd Webber（安德烈洛依韋伯）將詩人T.S.Elliot（艾略特）的詩集Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats改編而成的曠世鉅作！
以華麗舞蹈拼貼而成的CATS中，每一隻貓都有其不同的性格及名字，這些聰明過人的貓咪們聚集在一起舉行年度慶典，而最具智慧的長老貓，將從眾貓中選出一位最有資格獲得新生命的貓。
劇情隨著一隻隻獨特而有趣的貓出場而展開，形形色色的貓咪們彼此爭奇鬥豔。
有雌貓們為之瘋狂的天皇巨星、講究美食的貴族紳士，頑皮搗蛋的偷兒、資深的老演員等，當然，狗兒們的蠢況也逃不了貓族的法眼而飽受揶揄…，突然歹貓和其黨羽一現身就將長老綁走了………
載歌載舞之後，長老貓終於做出了決定，那隻歷盡滄桑的老母貓Grizabella，將進入屬於貓兒們的真正天堂。在眾貓的齊聲吟唱祝福中，為這齣多采多姿的音樂劇劃下句點。
膾炙人口的經典「Memory」，在劇中出自老母貓Grizabella，當她衣衫襤褸的出場時，所有的貓咪都避而遠之，甚至落井下石。她以這首歌回憶昔日的風光，歌詞中描寫她雖然從一隻出入上流社會的美麗貓咪，變成了連同類都不屑一顧的落魄老貓，但是她卻從中了解幸福的真諦。
1981年，CATS在倫敦西區【新倫敦劇院】首演時是由音樂劇名伶Elaine Paige飾演Grizabella，在她高亢的嗓音詮釋下，Memory一曲紅透半邊天。
緊接著1982年《貓》於紐約百老匯【冬園劇院】的演出更是一票難求，《貓》劇成了最搶手的音樂劇，而且這股熱潮從英國、美國開始強力擴散至全球二十六個國家、三百多個城市，而且從未退燒燃燒至今，當2003年《貓》劇首度在台北國家戲劇院公演時，一連二十二場爆滿紀錄，創下當時音樂劇在台的銷售紀錄!!
不管是音樂劇的老樂迷或是剛入門的音樂劇新鮮人，《貓》劇都是必看的經典聖品，2007年1月《貓》劇又再度來台公演，巡迴台中、台南、高雄等地，一共演出三十二場．
